Poll: Majority of Tennessee Voters Support Solar and Oppose Fixed Charges On Bill or Restrictions to Customer Choice

Recent polling conducted by North Star Opinion Research shows widespread support throughout Tennessee for solar energy as well as strong opposition to solar market barriers currently being erected by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) such as fixed (mandatory) monthly charges and limitations to customer choice.

Good ideas trump partisanship

It seems if an idea makes sense, political persuasion isn’t all that important. Just a few days ago, we reported that increasing numbers of Republicans support wind power. Now, two new studies quantify just how much that support has grown in recent years. Lazard Ltd., a financial advisory and asset management firm, just released a survey showing strong support for renewable energy from voters on both sides of the aisle. The change in attitudes among self-described conservatives is particularly striking.

Super Tuesday: Why are conservatives crazy in love with THIS type of energy?

Conservatives strongly support clean energy. The strongest reasons why conservatives support clean energy include less pollution, more innovation and greater independence. “Voters, including Conservative Republicans, think clean energy keeps us healthier, safer, and more prosperous,” says the ClearPath results headline. When asked if “we should accelerate the growth of clean energy so that America can have cleaner, healthier air and less pollution at home,” some 91% of voters supported the statement.
