Rural Energy for America Program grant applications due April 30!

On March 29, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released their formal announcement of the 2013 Rural Energy for America (REAP) grants solicitation. This is a highly effective federal cost-share grant program that helps farmers and rural businesses install equipment to save energy or generate their own renewable energy.  Check out this local success story. To read more on this year’s funds, refer to the Federal Register article here.

This year’s deadlines require a very tight turnaround: Applications for grants for feasibility study or project construction are due April 30. If you’ve not already begun preparation of your application, we urge you to immediately contact your state Rural Development representative (names and phone numbers here).

P.S. REAP is one of many effective, valuable programs that Congress failed to extend in the Farm Bill extension passed on January 1. If you agree that such investments are important to the rural economy AND the environment, please write your Reps and Senators!
